With over 35 years at the forefront of the UK music scene, Adrian “DJ Mello” Nelson is a Manchester legend and premier audio expert.

Starting in the mid-to-late 80s, Mello emerged from the underground Dancehall and pirate radio circuits, becoming a key voice on Frontline Radio, an iconic station that shaped the sound and culture of a generation. He later hosted shows on Buzz FM and Galaxy FM, known for his authentic selections and crowd connection across Manchester and beyond.

From 2000 onwards, Mello has been a pioneering figure in the UK Urban Gospel DJ movement, blending music, strategy, and creativity to elevate brands and energize audiences. His seamless transitions across genres, including Urban Gospel, R&B, Street Soul, Reggae, Soulful House, Neo-Soul, and Dancehall Classics, have made him a sought-after DJ and event host.

Mello currently hosts the Soul Drive Show on AffinityXtra and presents urban shows on Moods Radio and LuvNRG. His mission is to create moments that inspire, uplift, and connect communities, embodying the ethos that “It’s More Than Music.”

Started on SSR course Then completed 3 year HND in Accrington n Rawtenstall early 2000 Worked at hulme library for a short time teaching radio skills, also did the same at Mary seacole with disadvantaged youths.Went on to start a breakfast show on All fm and also a Lunch time slot early 2000s. I've worked on diamond radio, moss net, buzz fm and then the newer version of Love NRG in 2016. I play most things soul rnb reggae dub hip hop no dance garage or afro beats, neo soul jazz/blues

I started DJing in the early 90s, building my foundations in Jungle on Frontline Radio before going on to join Sting FM and later Buzz FM, helping shape the underground scene during some of its most influential years. My journey began with Jungle — it was the raw energy, heavy basslines, and fast-paced rhythms that defined the era and drew me into the culture. As the sound evolved, so did I, naturally transitioning into UK Garage, where I developed a style known for smooth blends, high-energy sets, and real crowd connection. Today, I continue to keep Jungle alive on Unity Radio every Wednesday, alongside Garage and Bassline on LoveNRG every Thursday, bringing decades of experience, authentic selection, and a deep passion for underground music to every set. From old-school classics to upfront vibes, my aim has always been simple: create an atmosphere and keep people moving.
